2. Government Kannada Higher Primary School, Uppar Camp, Birur
Government Kannada Higher Primary School at Uppar Camp is located on the outer edges of the town of Birur. Over 220 students attend six grades in this government operated school. Most of the parents of the children at this school belong to the economically and socially weaker section of the society and have limited physical and financial resources to provide for the school and to their children's education. Working with teachers, parents, and the local Block Education Officer, BEFC has been providing material resources such as school bags, uniforms and books to the students of this school. BEFC started working with this school in 2005 and is currently developing a plan to provide personal computers to help students learn the use of computers that are becoming essential for functioning in a modern society.
During 2008, BEFC provided over 200 age-appropriate books along with steel book cases to start the school library. In August 2008, all the graduating school children (Sixth Grade) were given English-Kannada dictionaries and special uniforms were provided to all the children at the school.
During the school year 2009-2010, additional uniforms were provided to 40 new students who enrolled into the school
During the school year 2010-2011, BEFC sponsored the school's 'Science Lab' and helped acquire science experiment set for the lab. The upper grade students in class Six and Seven use the lab to conduct 'hands-on' chemistry and biology experiments.
